After a while I gave up waiting to take Maple and Lunar to the vet to get their sexes checked. I watched a YouTube video about how to do it and what to look out for. So I gave it a try. No promises that it’s correct, and I will feel silly if it’s wrong. I picked Maple up first, turned her over and checked. Maple is a boy!

I was’t sure what I was looking at, but I think he is male. It was quite hard to tell at 7 weeks old.

I then checked Lunar. Lunar is a girl!

Well, now that can cause some issues, both for meeting Buttons and neutering. Gosh.

I now have to separate Lunar and Maple at the two month mark, and get him to the vet.

I was reading online that it’s best to get males desexed at 3-4 months of age, and then on a completely different website it said 6 months. OMG. I’ll make a vet appointment in the next few days and get them checked properly.

This is the video I watched to help me understand.

Neutering

Turns out that boys should get desexed about 3 months old, and girls about 4-6 months.

Later is fine too, but the hormones build up and it can take longer for them to go the longer you wait.

I have learned that it’s best to get males desexed as early as possible, then as adults, they won’t display mounting behaviours.
