The poor lady who needed to re-home Betty and her sisters contacted me to ask if it was alright if we came this weekend to pick her up. So, without much thought of course we said yes. But to do that, we needed to find a pen, organise hay, figure everything out within an hour. Luckily, we cobbled together a makeshift cage, which she will be in for the week until I can get there next weekend. She will get bored and lonely but we can figure that out tomorrow.

Betty will be in this cage for the week. She will be OK.

We will sort out the pen fence and give her a bigger space on the weekend.

Of course she will get free-roam time in the safety of the living room each day.

Of course the pet shops were closed because it was Saturday evening. So, we had to come up with an alternative to getting hay. Luckily, there was a paddock of hay that could be picked for use tonight.

Tomorrow will include a trip to the pet shop to get a bag of hay. Then next weekend I’ll go to the stock feed places to get oaten and pasture bales.

I looked up bales of hay on Gumtree and on social media. We found some interesting square bales of pasture hay in Gisborne South for $10. I contacted the seller and waited.

In the mean time, bags of pet shop hay will have to do. I found this hay, which is stupidly expensive. This 2kg bag, at $13, is the same price as a 25kg bale. They really like ripping people off.

So, Bun-bun will have this hay tomorrow, but at the moment she is enjoying the road-side hay.

The hay seller on Gumtree got back to me and said that he has some bales left. I will organise to pick some bales up when I am there next Saturday.

Zero-cares?

Currently, Betty is being called Bun-bun, which is kind of cute. But a new name is in order.

On the way home, Bun-bun fell asleep in the carry box. Which shows she is either super stressed, super chill, or just a typical lop with the “zero-cares” attitude. Turns out, she has the lop “zero-cares” attitude.
