Every pet needs a human who can teach, someone who has the ability to give clear signals, rewards positive behaviours and is predictable and consistent.
In her travels, Dr. Sonia saw many rabbit carers who had broken relationships with their rabbits; some carers had completely given up or were truly frustrated, and the rabbits were confused, grumpy and had become an introvert. Other carers tried their best, making friends with their rabbit, but they still had behavioural issues due to misunderstanding body language.
It became her mission to learn as much as she could about rabbit behaviour and diet, because they play hand-in-hand in understanding rabbits to a deeper level. After some time, Dr. Sonia realised that because rabbits cannot speak they needed a way to help their human companion to start to understand their body language. She also learned that humans must be aware of their own body language and how the tone of their voice influences their rabbit’s behaviour and perception.
When rabbits are lead without force, are positively rewarded for appropriate behaviours, have their body language understood and have an appropriate diet, they are motivated to establish a trusting relationship with their human companion. It is then that owning a rabbit is enjoyable, and a brand new connection with them will begin.
