I’ve been feeding Buttons the Specialty Mix Rabbit and Guinea Pig Mix, once a week, but it doesn’t have a nutrition panel on it, so I don’t really know what is in it. Now that Buttons has an upset tummy, I’m looking into good quality bunny food mixes.

I know that some people say that feeding rabbits a chaff mix is not good because it has oats, grains, corn and seeds in it. Yes, I do agree that it is not good as a full diet, but as a treat once a week it is fine. Still, I think it’s important to have a balanced diet, that includes bits of everything.

Also, I remove the hard corn bits (which can cause blockages) because they are so hard like shards of glass. It is not corn, it is maize, a filler in most animal foods.

When I had Chester, he came with a half-bag of Green Valley Grains Rabbit and Guinea Pig Mix.

On the bag was this logo.

I had no idea what that meant, and after a bit of researching I found the FeedSafe website.

What is it?
FeedSafe accreditation means that feed manufacturers have strict production processes and quality controls in place. Manufacturers undergo annual audits conducted by the FeedSafe certification body to ensure they continue to meet these standards.

So there are regulations that pet feed manufacturers can follow. What a wonderful thing!

There is a map on the FeedSafe website which shows the manufacturers who have gained the accreditation.

I’m going to start looking for foods that have this accreditation. It will be worth the time.

Every manufacturer should have this accreditation.
