My nieces love cuddling the babies. And of course, school-friends had to come to visit to see “how small they are” and pat them, too. I’m glad that was the case, because it calmed the babies down a lot.

My nieces also played a lot of music, which apparently bunnies like. They remember the beat of the music and start to breathe to it, that way they calm down because they aren’t concentrating on being scared. Apparently, bunnies remember the beat and if the same songs are played frequently, they end up dancing to it. I’d like to see that, that would be cute.

Squeeze!

The baby's crate

I bought a new medium sized crate hoping that it will keep the babies safe. Which it did, but the bars are too far apart and they can squeeze through. I had to wrap the bottom part of the cage with towels to deter the babies from pushing through. It helped a little, until the white baby decided that nothing was going to stop her from escaping.

Luckily my sister had spare wire panels from her C&C cage that they use for their two guinea pigs. I was able to tie some spare panels around the outside of the cage to make the gaps much smaller. I tied the wire panels onto the cage with pink polar fleece strips. Which is what is also used for the guinea pigs house.

Naming the Babies

My sister, nieces and I had no idea what to name the babies. We tossed around Angel, Misty, Snowbell, Pickles and Seraphina for the white baby, and Nutmeg, Ginger, Toffee, Amber, Waffle and Spice for the brown baby.

I wanted to name them something that sounds completely different to Buttons, so Nutmeg was out. I shorten Buttons’ name to Butts, and I could have Butts and Nut. Nah, too similar.

Buttons’ full name is Moustachio “Buttons” Cassinova, so I wanted a long name like that for the babies. Because little things need big names.

After a while we came up with Lunar Moonstone for the white baby. I think Lunar is an easy to say name… Let me try it: “Lunar and Buttons stop eating the carpet”… Yeah it works.

Now for the brown baby…

I was thinking that because it was very close to Halloween I could name her Ginger, Pumpkin, Maple or Spice. I looked at pictures of spices online and nothing floated my boat. Not inspiring at all.

  • Spice had too many “s” sounds “Buttons, Lunar and Spice…”
  • Pumpkin was too hard and sounds like Buttons. It would suit a bigger bunny.
  • Ginger is OK: “Lunar, Buttons and Ginger…” hmmm, maybe.
  • Maple… It’s a soft gentle name and would fit her peaceful nature. “Maple, Lunar, Buttons…” Yep. Maple it is.

My sister came up with the name Maple Juniper Berry, it sounded cute, but it’s still not quite right. I want to celebrate Maple’s colours, so I’m thinking something like Maple Festival.
