The start of May was cold. Buttons stayed indoors and loved it. He has really become part of the family, he eats when we eat, he sleeps when we sleep, he plays when we play. Being in a pen in the middle of the room has allowed him to get involved with our day-to-day life. Every time someone walks past, he gets a pat. He is also in the centre of every conversation. Even if there is a strange noise and we don’t react to it, neither does he. He copies us a lot.
We have come up with many different names for him:
- Buttony
- Butts
- Buttsy
- Butty
- Buttocks (especially when he is splooting)
- Butter Bean
- Buttony Wutteny Chutney
- Buttony Chops
- Sir Buttonsworth
- Lord Butterbean
- Butty Beans
- Bean
and the list goes on.
Buttons has been the happiest bunny lately. He runs around, binkying, shaking his long black ears, and he has even started to shake his tail.
IQ Square
I got this IQ Square a while ago. I haven’t introduced it to Buttons before, because I was going to change the colour of some of the shapes to make training him easier. But, I gave in after being locked inside for 4 days straight. He needed something new to do, even if it was for 5 minutes.
I pulled out all of the yellow, let’s call them cups, and put a few of his favourite Little Gems in the centre hole (he doesn’t have them often). I then covered it with a round cup.
He didn’t know what it was, so I introduced it to him. I showed him that there were treats in the centre hole. I put the cup over the top, but he didn’t know what to do. So, I rested the cup on an angle over the treats.
I showed him that he could flick the cup off. He quickly grabbed a treat when it was off. When he moved his head I quickly put the cup back in place. After about a minute, he got the hang of the cup being put over and he had to push it away.
He ended up honking at me when I put the cup back in place each time.
After a few minutes I added a second cup. It also had a few treats under it. I thought it would be too much for him, but there’s no harm in trying.
Then he did it, all by himself! He death-stared at me as he ate, daring me to do it again. Nothing gets between a bunny and his treats.
First Day Outside
Thursday the 11th May was the first day in about a week that was nice enough to put Buttons outside. I extended the enclosure with a fence. He took a while to want to explore the outside. He spent a bit of time in a pipe. I know he was missing Maple and Lunar.
