Setting up a new house sometimes thinking outside the box. I needed a place that was dry to keep the rabbit hay, so we decided to use an old bird aviary. We modified it a bit, by putting two black plastic boxes upside down in the base, then screwing a wire mesh over them. I could then stack the hay into it and it’s off the ground and protected from little squeakers.

We then purchased another aviary for the budgies. Tintin and any new friends will be outside.

The hay shed and the aviary looked good together against the wall.

Now that we had the aviary set up, we went looking for baby budgies.

We went to PetStock and had a look at their budgies. We fell in love with the blue one and the smaller green one.

Tinny had no idea what he was in for.

They got on really well together. After a couple of days inside, we decided to put them in the aviary.

They were really happy in the aviary.

We decided to get some aqua colour spray paint and paint the base of Tinny’s cage to freshen it up, because we were thinking about getting a cockatiel.

We ended up getting Gizmo. A cute 2 month old cockatiel.

We gave hinm a couple of weeks to settle in, and spent a lot of time taming him.

We purchased him as a non-tame bird, and even though he was ok in the cage he would hiss and squawk all the time.

Budgie update – 19 October, 2024

These were the last photos I took of Tinny and the budgies. These photos were taken at 12:30pm, and 10 minutes later, Tinny and the green one had disappeared.

Only the blue budgie was left.

We searched high and low for them, but they were completely gone.
